Reflection:
Completing the annotated image and the first three sections of this report has strengthened my understanding of how fashion adoption theories operate beyond abstract concepts and directly inform design decisions. Annotating the product required close observation of both aesthetic and functional elements, which highlighted how seemingly simple features such as frame, shape, or material are often intentional responses to consumer behaviour and social acceptance. This process made the connection between theory and practice more substantial, particularly in recognising how designers predict user needs and adoption patterns. Writing the report further reinforced this understanding by requiring me to clearly explain how theories like Triple Trickle Theory and Diffusion of Innovation shape not only how a product looks, but how it is introduced and accepted within the market.
From this task, I have learned that successful design is not only about creativity or innovation, but about strategically aligning with how people adopt and interact with new ideas. It has shown me the importance of designing with both functionality and social context in mind. Moving forward, this will change the way I approach my work by encouraging me to think more critically about the user, the market, and the lifecycle of a product. I will place greater emphasis on designing for acceptance and longevity, rather than focusing solely on aesthetics or novelty.
